This is my suggestion, but why not sign Quilvio Veras? I am looking at his fielding stats and he has just as good a glove as Alomar. Not as good a hitter, but if you stick him towards the bottom of the lineup, I think he can be a productive 7-9 hitter. I just want defense at 2b right now since there is no way to completely replace his offense and well...we need D behind the pitching. I think the trade for Catalanotto may still be a good idea because of Catalanotto's ability to come off the bench.
Look at Vera's stats at: http://espn.go.com/mlb/profiles/stat...ding/5308.html

The Indians cannot afford to get any more light-hitting players. Here's a name I just heard in connection with the Tribe: Rickey Gutierez. I would love him in our lineup. He played SS last year and did good, but not great, defensively. He will be better at 2B though. Plus, he's a .280 15 75, .380 OBP guy. Those are good numbers for a #6-7 hitter, which is probably where he'd bat for us. They say their interest is conditional, meaning if his price goes down. He is looking for $5 mil per, I'd guess the Indians would like him at around $3-4 mil per.

Sounds good, but you think he can turn the double play at the 2b position? That is what I am worried about. Remember the years of converted SS at 2b? Straight up D was fine, but when they tried to do the DP, it was a heartache.
